English Language Testing Options in Papua New Guinea

In November the Department of Home Affairs made changes to the requirements for Student visa applicants from PNG. A recognised English language test result is now required for all applicants from Papua New Guinea (and many other countries). There are two recognised tests available in Port Moresby:

1. Pearson Test of English (PTE) 
2. IELTS

1. Pearson Test of English

​Note that due to test centre relocation PTE tests are not available until January 13 2025. IELTS tests are available in December (see below for instructions). 

You can book the test yourself (recommended as emails and passwords are required), or we can book it for you.

6. On the day of the test, take your confirmation email and passport to the test centre (you must have a passport to book at test)​

The PTE testing centre is located at IBS University Campus,11 Mile Sogeri Road (opposite Marianville High School), Port Moresby.

2. IELTS

Tests are available December 14, 18, January 8, 25, and onwards

3. Do not take the IELTS General Training Test
4. You can take either the computer-based or paper-based tests (both are OK)
5. Examination fees are AU$475 payable online
6. Tests are delivered at the International Training Institute (ITI)

Please be reminded that an English test is mandatory. You will not be able to apply to study in Australia unless you have completed, and passed, a recognised English language test. If you require assistance with your booking please let us know.
